Cambridge Curriculum : Grade 1 & Grade 6

BYPS is a perfect blend of International and Bilingual Curriculum. The School follows the Cambridge Curriculum that develops skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Cambridge Global Perspectives and ICT. The curriculum is flexible with clear learning objectives. Cambridge Global English enables learners to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the critical skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment.
The mathematics curriculum framework explores five content areas: number, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.
The Science framework covers four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning, investigating, recording and analyzing data. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of the curriculum.
The children have specialist P.E, Music and I.C.T classes every week, in addition to daily lessons in Arabic Language, Islamic Studies and Life Skills as per the MOE Omani curriculum.

The Cambridge Primary Global Perspectives Curriculum
BYPS implements the Cambridge Primary Global Perspectives. It is an innovative and skill-based curriculum which places academics study in a practical, real-world context. It gives the learners the opportunity to develop the transferable skills that they need to be successful at school as well in their future careers. Cambridge Global Perspectives takes an interdisciplinary, cross-curricular approach to developing the skills needed for success in education and work.
By studying global issues, learners explore different, and often opposing, perspectives to develop their critical thinking, research and communication skills. They practice researching arguments before analyzing, evaluating and communicating their findings. These skills are highly valued in education and work.

  • Learners become motivated to take control of their learning.
  • Learners are excited by the global issues and topics which they can relate to.
  • Learners were able to carry over their skill development to subject lessons such as mathematics, sciences and languages.
  • It helps in improving the research skills, presentation skills, group work and negotiation skills of the students.

The programme taps into the way today’s students enjoy learning, including group work, seminars, projects and working with other students around the world. The emphasis is on developing student’s ability to think critically about a range of global and local issues where there is always more than one point of view. Students study topics they are interested in- for example, “Looking after planet earth” and “The right to learn”.

PSHE- (Personal, Social, Health & Emotional Wellbeing Program)
Education is not only about academic, but it is a HOLISTIC development of a young learner into an emotionally balanced, physically healthy, confident & globally aware citizen.
The students are provided hands-on learning opportunities, enabling them to experience learning in a meaningful way that reflects their interest and needs.
This curriculum helps students to understand the world in which they live and the interdependence of individuals, groups and communities, including awareness of economic and environmental issues.
The PSHE curriculum provides

  • Value and character building activities
  • Holistic development of the child
  • Training the children to have a GROWTH MINDSET
  • Introduction to BRAIN GYM

Developing EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE in the child

Home Economics
We believe in training our students to handle and deal with everyday things like:
Living in a community: Ensuring that our young learners become global citizens and inculcate the attributes and the essence of tolerance and adaptability. Home economics at BYPS train these young minds to happily coexist with all their differences. They learn how to share responsibilities and help one another.
Lessons on safety: Not all parents teach their kids how to react and deal situations with calm and alertness. Our students will be especially trained to deal emergency situations like

  • Fire at home
  • flight safety
  • Table etiquette
  • Basic cooking
  • Laundry
  • cleaning
  • Ironing,
  • Approach to sharp or hot objects around them.

That is why it is important that children learn it somewhere. In their lessons on cooking or sewing, home economics teachers are responsible for teaching their students how to deal with knives, hot stoves, needles etc. Additionally, kids can learn how to prevent and deal with dangerous situations at home.

Learning proper nutrition: The learners are also taught the importance of proper nutrition. In the cooking lessons, teachers give kids some information on the nutritious qualities of the food they are cooking. In addition, many teachers implement topics of healthy eating habits in their lessons.
Useful life skills: Home economics is one of the most useful lessons taught in schools. While other subjects focus on theory and things that most of us will never use, home economics give useful tips on how to deal with everyday things. Not many people need to use Pythagorean Theorem, but everyone needs to know how to cook, clean and pay bills

STEAM BASED CURRICULA
At BYPS, STEAM education is at the heart of everything we do. Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and ignite a passion for learning in our students, while also equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Through project-based learning experiences, hands-on experiments, and real-world applications, students at BYPS have the opportunity to explore scientific phenomena, conduct experiments, solve problems and create innovative solutions. Students design and build prototypes using engineering principles, they express themselves creatively through various forms of art and music.
